Food photos and labels
Allow camera access in iOS, or choose a photo from your library. With AI analysis enabled, taking or choosing a food or label photo starts analysis. Melo sends the selected image and relevant text to OpenAI with your permission.
Use a clear, well-lit photo. For labels, include the serving size, units and full nutrition panel. On the review screen, compare the result with the package and adjust ingredients or portions before saving.
If the estimate looks wrong or the connection fails, use manual entry. Turning AI off in Preferences keeps manual entry and barcode lookup available.
When a barcode is missing
Keep the code fully visible and steady. Melo looks up barcode numbers through Open Food Facts; barcode lookup does not send a photo to OpenAI. Not every product has a complete or current record.
If the result is missing or does not match the package, scan the nutrition label with AI enabled or enter the values manually. Confirm whether the label describes one serving, the whole package or 100 g / 100 ml.
Check the portion first
Open the ingredient editor to change the amount and unit. With portion scaling enabled, the nutrition updates with the portion. The displayed values apply to the full portion shown. Review the totals before choosing Save meal.
Saved foods can be reused for another meal. Check the portion again when your serving changes.
Your account and saved photos
Sync or save progress to your account to send your records and available photos to Melo account storage. Wait for a confirmed result and keep original photos if a transfer is incomplete.
Sign-out clears local Melo records after a successful reset; unsynced entries may be lost. It does not delete the server account. Account deletion is a separate action in Profile and requires a working connection.
If a restore reports a missing photo, keep your local original. Entirely missing photo records may need you to add the original again. See the privacy policy’s storage and deletion details.
Subscriptions, trials and restores
Use Restore purchases in Melo with the Apple Account used for the purchase. The app needs a connection to verify subscription access. Individual yearly and Family yearly plans have a three-day trial for eligible new subscribers; the monthly plan has no trial.
Manage cancellation in your Apple Account subscriptions. Deleting Melo or deleting your Melo account does not cancel an Apple subscription. For a trial you do not want to renew, Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before it ends.
Apple’s subscription guideApple Health and exports
Health access is optional and controlled in iOS. Only confirmed meal nutrition is written when permission allows it. Imported weights become Melo records and can be included in sync and exports; imported active-energy totals stay on the iPhone.
A nutrition PDF is a summary, not a complete account archive. Copies you share through other apps remain outside Melo’s deletion controls.
Feedback and private groups
Saving a feedback draft keeps it on your iPhone. Send feedback submits the written message through your registered Melo account; check for its receipt. Meals and photos are not attached automatically.
Group posts are visible to permitted group members. Use the app’s report and block actions for unwanted content. Family membership does not share your private nutrition records or photos.
